If you are diagnosed with a desmoid tumor it is recommended that you be evaluated in a major, academic hospital with experts in sarcoma. Patients with desmoid tumors should be evaluated by a multi-disciplinary team of surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, geneticists and nurses.

Sarcoma Alliance for Research through Collaboration (SARC) works with healthcare professionals as part of a collaborative team from over 35  institutions in the United States and many international institutions as well.   

To participate in SARC, physicians must be part of a multidisciplinary sarcoma practice that includes expertise in diagnosis (pathology and radiology physicians) and treatment (pediatric, medical, radiation, surgical and orthopedic oncologist) of sarcoma.  In addition, participants must have a commitment to research and a practice that sees at least 80 (only 20 if purely a pediatric center) new sarcoma cases per year. SARC participants are committed to the Connective Tissue Oncology Society (CTOS) model and philosophy that sarcomas are best studied and managed in a collaborative fashion.

When evaluating treatment options, it is prudent to find a physician experienced in desmoid tumors.  Also, consider getting more than one opinion. As desmoids are soft-tissue tumors, physicians experienced in the treatment of sarcoma may be the most familiar with desmoid diagnosis and treatment.   This article describes the importance of being treated by physicians experienced with sarcomas.
